Happiness is Blogging!!!

Today it's a conversation between you and me and no one else. Yes! today I just want to talk to my lovely, precious readers. No design and decor today it will be about Disha (of course me)  :) So just sit back and relax. Have your cuppa and enjoy this conversation.

I am a person who is raised in such a way that I can never sit idle even for a second. So when my kid grew little older and started doing things by his own I got some spare time on my hands and little did I know that the spare time I got will change my life forever. So once when I was searching for home decor ideas on the internet in my spare time I stumbled upon some interesting design blogs and I read them all in depth. Then instinct to write my own blog was born and I started writing my own blog in October 2010  but that definitely wasn't a serious blogging that was just a start, an experiment and a learning phase. I loved it totally and slowly it became a part of my life. A very important part of my life. After several changes from blog banner to themes, fonts to header & footer, side bars to tabs I was finally satisfied with the look, feel and appearance of my blog in early 2013 (yeah took a long time). Having my hands full of responsibility I always run short of time and I know blogging needs lot of time, hard work, efforts and dedication but I am slowly and steadily reaching towards it.
When I started blogging I didn't know anything about it. It's only 'Blogging' and nothing else that has taught me how to blog. Though my writing skills and way of blogging has changed a lot during this journey but the intention to write a blog is still the same. You can read my first post here and you will know what I mean.

I was passionate about art, craft, and decor so I just shared everything that I knew. There were days when I waited patiently for readers to come on my blog, read my post and leave a word or two.......it didn't happen so soon!! But I kept writing because I find it interesting and I loved it. For me sharing is caring and slowly you all started visiting me and encouraging me :)))) Happy me!! In my blogging journey, I came across so many wonderful, like-minded and talented people. My fellow bloggersfans, followers and readers always encouraged me. All of you brought the best out of me and thanks to each and everyone of you for that.
I featured so many inspiring artists and blogger on my blog and not to mention l learnt a lot from all of them. My posts about different Indian art forms are loved by one and all. You all gave so much love to my 'Do It Yourself' projects and 'Artwork' and appreciated my efforts. Many of you contacted me and told me how my blog has inspired you to do something and yes I featured your inspiring works in 'Fan Of The Week' series on my blog.

I was not aware that one can make money through blogging. I was Stay At Home Mother (SAHM) and blogging has transformed me into a Work From Home Mother (WHM). Now I make money (Dollars, Euros, Rupees and many more currencies) online while sitting in the comfort of my home and taking good care of my child. I have rediscovered myself. I am doing what I love to do and I am enjoying every bit of it. A year ago Dell approached me to write my story about my passion on their microsite and they published it. I got overwhelming responses from all of you for everything I did here. Thank you....thank you so much for always being there for me.
Do you have some dream then don't just dream about it. Put some efforts, get that spark and I am sure you will be able to live your dream. Do what you love or just start loving whatever you do.
If you also have some life changing experiences then please share with me here in the comment section I would love to hear from you!!
Stay positive & creative!!

Decor Ideas For Living Room

Your home reflects your personality and living room plays a key role in reflecting your lifestyle. There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort. Here are few tips that can transform your living room into a comfortable, functional & pleasing abode.
The first thing before decorating a living room is to know about how many purposes the room will going to serve like TV room, drawing room , family room or may be all these. Then choose the stuff according to its purpose.
Next you should place all the furniture in a way that it should look uncluttered, spacious and most importantly functional. If you are living in a small apartment then multipurpose and small furniture is always a best option to give your living room a spacious look. Sofa is the main furniture and plays an important role in overall look of the place. Choose it wisely according to the space available, theme of the living room and color of the walls. It should be comfortable and gorgeous as well to beautify the space. Put some throw pillows to perk up the place and to add some color. Center table comes next and can be very appealing if accessorized properly. Don't over accessorize it.

An indoor plant in eye catching planter or a vase filled with some fresh flowers, few candles or may be some pebbles or shells all kept in a tray and some good books these are the accessories that work well with any kind of theme.

Wall color should be light for your room to look spacious and bright. Though you can create a focal point by painting one wall in dark color with texture on it or stenciled wall or a wallpaper according to your room's theme can do wonder. Putting up a collage of family pictures that oftentimes called picture gallery wall is always a best choice to give your room a personal touch. You can choose a big canvas painting also to give your place a traditional feel. A big mirror or collection of mirrors displayed on wall not only looks pleasing but also makes your room look bigger and brighter.

Curtains, rugs and carpets create a complete look of any living room. All these furnishings should be color coordinated and blend well with rest of the decor.
Lighting plays an important role in creating a warm ambiance. Where chandelier can make your room look classy and traditional, spotlights and floor lamps give it a contemporary look. Table lamps placed on either side of the sofa looks pleasing and create warm and welcoming feel.

DIY: How To Paint Plastic Container

I have recycled so many plastic food containers and turned them into beautiful and useful planters and brush/pen holders. All my readers liked them so much that they wanted me to share the tutorial on how to paint a plastic food container. So sharing it today!!

Supplies:
Plastic container (That you want to recycle)
Acrylic Colors
Paint Brush
Rag
Varnish

Steps:
1). The very first step is to wash and clean the container. It should be free from dust, oil or grease.

I cut the edge of container in pattern. Have a look....

2). Next apply either water based primer or white acrylic color on the container. Do not worry if the paint doesn't spread evenly on the container's surface as you will going to give a second coat of primer. Let it dry for atleast 30-40 mins. Give another coat of primer and then again let it dry for 30 mins.

Plastic food container recycling.

3). Now paint the container in your choice of color. Remember do not mix excess of water or else color wouldn't spread properly.

Plastic food container recycling.

Giving a second coat of color is always a good idea. As it gives a good finish.

4). Now its turn to make pattern or motifs of your choice. You can use acrylic/pearl/shimmer or enamel paint. I used pearl colors and this time it's my take on 'Gond Art'. I truly loved painting it. Its simple and beautiful...just lines and dots and it is done.

Plastic food container recycling.

Painting these two fishes took one hour. Painstaking isn't it.......!! I was so meticulously filling the lines and dots in the fishes that I even held my breath so my hand wouldn't move or shake (and I usually do that :)))

5). Now that you are done with art on the pot let it dry for 2-3 hrs and then apply protective coat of varnish.
It will give shine to the pot and protect it as well. Here is my complete pot with Gond Art on it. How do you find it.

It's adorning my dining table and looks fabulous there.

A closer look. Lots of fishes there :)))

Great Ways To Have A Beautiful Home

Love makes our House a Home and to turn Home into a Beautiful Home you need to follow these simple tips.
1. The very first thing to start with is unclutter, clear the clutter and your space will look brighter and well arranged. Clutter in any room makes it appear messy and small. Clearing the clutter and placing things in proper way makes a room look bigger and brighter.
2. The easiest way to make your home look new, fresh and beautiful in record time is rearranging the furniture. Place furniture in an unconventional way to give a completely new look to a room. Move seating arrangement away from the wall for intimate and cozy seating.
3. Putting slipcovers on furniture make them look new and can change overall appearance of the room.
4. Update curtains and draperies. Choose the right color according to theme and furniture in the room.
5. Changing a theme or style of the decor in a particular room is also an easiest and quick way to cheer up the space.
6. Change the pictures and artwork all around your place. Try matching either color or theme of the paintings. Changing accessories can make a lot of difference. Its a quick and easy way to decorate your space.
7. Add texture and pattern to a room by placing some nice area rug or beautiful cushions. It instantly lift the lost charm of a room.
8. Painting just one wall in a room certainly adds a lot of character and drama to the place. Put up some nice artwork and you are done.
9. Sometimes changing indoor plants can also do the trick. Replace palm with fern or some flowering plant or vice versa and see the difference.
10. One more easy and quirky way to decorate home is give those old lampshades a new look by painting them or adding nice lace to them.

When my husband and I bought an apartment I was so filled with great enthusiasm to give my home a beautiful and pleasing look with lot of personal touch. Inspiring Eminent Artist: Smita Bakshi

So this is the first post of new year and I wish all my readers a very wonderful and very happy new year. I am starting this year with a very creative artist and art lover Smita BakshiLets meet Smita and know how she rediscovered her lost passion and I am sure you will be inspired. Over to Smita............

First of all I would Like to thanks Disha for featuring my artwork on her blog.  I am so much in love with her creativity.
I am Smita Bakshi an MBA, HR Manager by profession. I am very professional, focused and methodical when it comes to work. I have been doing good in my career. I am married and have a seven year old boy and eventually they are married to my art work now. I have been very creative and art has always been my first love. I started painting when I was ten years.  I remember drawing the diagrams for my friends in their projects. I had made a lot of paintings which still hang at my relative’s, friend’s and my own home. It gives an immense pleasure to have the love and respect gotten from all of them.

Life changed after I finished the school,  all these years I had been so busy that I almost forgot that once I was an art lover.  Last year I had a doctor’s appointment and while waiting for my turn I randomly started sketching and from then it never stopped………

Amazing isn't it

Oh!! I just love these cushions..........

I don’t consider myself an artist. I’m just not comfortable with that word at all. I like to just think of it as pursuing and living a creative life. I am me, a person who creates because it makes my soul happy, centers me and fills me with a sense of self satisfaction and joy. In fact, my husband didn't even know that I could draw until I started SketchiiStudio and so did all of you who are reading about it, take some time out from your busy life and find the “YOU” in Yourself.

About my Art :

SketchiiStudio is my creative space. It makes me happy to have my own space , a dedicated space and filled with the things that inspire me and make me feel good, just like I did.  Creativity makes my soul happy, centers me and fills me with a sense of self satisfaction and joy.

My style of work is primarily figurative and abstract so I mostly do illustrations and abstract art. My art is made very creatively with a lot of detailing. I absolutely adore pure and bright colors and love to challenge god's natural chroma and patterns within my imagination. I use ink, water color and acrylics on paper and canvas mostly. I have promised myself to have at least one artwork added every fortnight. So stay tuned and visit my page - SketchiiStudioI have recently opened my shop.

Thank you so much Smita for joining us. Wish you great success ahead!!
Here are some links where you can get in touch with Smita and check out her amazing creations.
